Charlotte USA Dance
is the local chapter of a national organization and all chapters across the
US have a local and national mission in promoting social and competition
ballroom dance. Our worldwide mission is raise dance athletes to represent
the USA in World Championship competitions which will one day be held as an
Olympic event. We are here to assist in getting started in ballroom dance. Here
is our recommended path to guide your Youth and Adults to enter DanceSport
competitions to reach your full dance potential. 1.
Join the local chapter of USA Dance - Charlotte chapter and support the dance mission and the local chapter
with your membership and attendance. 2. Youth dancers younger than 15 and Adults over 35 in
the Senior 1 and higher category should pursue training through their
professional instructor. High school and college age dancers and young adults
have a great resource to join our local supported college DanceSport team at
UNCC to train and travel to compete in regional college events. All
DanceSport athletes should seek a balance of training with private and group
lessons from their professional instructor. It is important to develop
partnering skills by attending social dances and dancing with a variety of
people of different levels to learn lead and follow skills and floor craft. 3. Find a dance partner to train with who shares the
same goals and who will make a commitment in time and shared dance lessons. A
dance partner can be found through the college program and at local dance
studios but in the absence of a partner, a DanceSport athlete must continue
to train on their own.
DancePartner.com is another online source. 4. Set a goal to achieve Full
Bronze level syllabus proficiency and enter regional competitions to gain
experience and advance to Silver, Gold, Pre-Champ levels. In order to
represent the US in World Championships you must compete at the Championship
level which involves complete knowledge of all syllabus figures and advancing
in open routines. A competitor through training will learn floor craft,
presentation, partnering skills and follow competition rules and etiquette.
